FAMILY SESSION FAQs

what should we wear?

Soft neutrals and earthy colors always photograph beautifully! Choose coordinating, not matching outfits, and go for comfortable pieces you feel great in. Flowy dresses, cozy knits, and layers add beautiful texture. Need help? I’m happy to guide you with outfit suggestions!

where do family sessions take place?

I offer sessions outdoors, in various rental studios, and in-home for a more intimate, cozy feel. If you love the idea of bright sun-lit photos or golden sunlight filtering through the trees, we can plan for an outdoor session at sunrise or sunset. If you prefer a relaxed, lifestyle approach, we can document your journey in the comfort of your home. Studio sessions offer a clean, sleek, and modern look as well as themed, decorated sets depending on the time of year. It's completely up to you!

what if my kids dont sit still?

That’s completely fine! I don’t expect little ones to sit perfectly posed. I encourage movement, play, and natural interactions—chasing, giggles, and cuddles make for the best photos! But don't worry, we will still get a classic family portrait of everyone looking at the camera!

can we include grandparents or extended family?

Absolutely! If you’d like to include extended family, just let me know when booking so I can be prepared to capture all the special connections. Depending on the number of people, it may be wise to add extra time to your session so we have enough time for everyone!

can i bring my dog?

Yes! I love when pets are part of the family story. Just bring a leash and some treats, and we’ll include them in a few sweet moments. (Most studios do not allow pets.)

what if my child is shy or takes time to warm up?

That’s totally okay! I take a relaxed, playful approach, giving kids time to get comfortable without forcing poses. We’ll ease into things naturally, and before you know it, they’ll be having fun!

what if my family isn't "photogenic"?

You don’t need to be! My goal is to make you feel comfortable and capture your family as you truly are—the love, the laughter, the in-between moments. No stiff poses, just real connection. It's not about perfection, it's about the real, authentic moments.

do you give posing directions?

Yes! I gently guide you into natural, flattering positions that don’t feel stiff or forced. I also encourage movement—snuggles, walking hand in hand, playing with your kids—so everything feels effortless.

how should i prepare for the session?

I always recommend making sure everyone is well rested, fed, and happy prior to the session if possible. Maybe consider an after-session treat for the kiddos to look forward to like ice cream or movie night! Lastly, I suggest avoiding tight underwear and clothing on the day of the session to prevent marks on your skin and removing any chipped nail polish.

what if my child gets sick before the session?

Life happens! If your little one isn’t feeling well, just let me know as soon as possible, and we’ll find a new date. I want your family to be comfortable and happy during your session.

do you offer both color and black-and-white images?

Yes! I include a mix of both in your final gallery. Some moments just feel more timeless in black and white, and I love using both to tell your story beautifully.
